Double Reeds Do Mario

I've never been a big fan of Mondays. The week seems to stretch on infinitely out in front of you. Except this Monday seemed too short. This morning I realized our band only has four more in class rehearsals before our dress and then concert. Our last concert was really quite good, so our conductor has given us more difficult music. I really believe we are up to the challenge, but oh man! Its a lot of notes! But as he pointed out, once the concert is done, band is done. We will no longer have rehearsals and I'll have four more hours each week to do what I need to do. Not to mention time I can spend practicing other things. So for the next two weeks, I've got to hunker down and push on through!

Even so, its important to find humor and enjoyment where you can. One of the oboists in my section, Justin, arranged the Mario Theme Song for double reeds. He passed it out in rehearsal today and we read through it at the very end. We were all exhausted, and sight reading. But it did lift our spirits and the spirits of our fellow bandmates. I was pretty disappointed to be placed in band this semester. I really prefer the orchestra. But as it turns out, I have a pretty rockin' oboe section. The saxes who sit behind us are turning out to be really cool people too. I don't know why, but I seem to have more friends in the band than I did in the orchestra. Surprisingly, I'm really enjoying my ensemble this semester. Who knew?

Beannachd leat.
